Chubby Chops

Here in Brighton, dog-owners are pretty lucky.  It is a very dog-friendly city we live in.  Whenever my mum comes to visit with Lily (her lovely Yorkshire terrier), she is surprised and delighted at the places we can take Lily to and the friendly reception she usually gets.

However, Chubby Chops in Hove takes this to a whole new level.  As well as having a brilliant name, it is a brilliant place.  A cafe for dogs and their owners, dogs are not only ‘allowed’ but just as important as the humans.  There is a menu of doggie treats, plenty of space for them to run around, and of course loads of other canine friends for them to hang out with.

So, when my friend Ali came to stay with her two adorable dogs, Molly and Mabel, we headed over to Hove to check it out.  The dogs had a lovely time doing dog stuff, like barking and chewing on pigs’ ears.  The humans were, it must be said, a  bit hungover, so very relieved to find that the food options also included a supremely greasy and delicious Croque Madame, excellent coffee and slices of cake bigger than our heads.

We met some lovely dogs, chatted to other dog-owners and the friendly staff, and generally had a jolly nice time.  Dogs make everything so much fun!

It is pretty new (apparently just opened a couple of months ago) and is obviously a great place for local dog-owners.  They apparently have a dog-groomer in situ at weekends, too.

But what I’m wondering is…  Am I allowed to hang out there even though I don’t have a dog of my own?!  Acceptable, or kind of like a creepy single adult with no children hanging out in a playground?  Hmm.
